SCHEDULE:

Please add these dates to your calendar and keep up to date with the team info by opting into the team text alerts when we send out that info.

ATTACHED is a calendar that you can print and hang on your fridge with practice times and meet information.

Some Key Dates:

**May 15 ~ Afternoon practice schedule begins!

  • 4:15 - 5:00 ~ 6 and unders (Mon/Wed/Fri only this year)
  • 5:00 - 6:00 ~ 7 - 10 year olds (Monday through Friday)
  • 6:00 - 7:00 ~ 11 and ups (Monday through Friday)

**On this day, we ask that parents make every effort to attend the first 20-30 minutes of practice for a brief opening meeting and coach introductions.

**May 31 ~ TIME TRIALS!!!!!

  • This will take place during normal practice times.
  • We need to get seed times for our meets beginning next week and start to put together relays. To do this we need to see each child swim each stroke and get a time for them. Please make every effort to have your child here for practice as this day as it is difficult to do make ups.
  • We will need some parent volunteers to help with timing on this day.

**Also May 31 ~ Swim evaluations (8&unders)

  • During the time trial, we will check that 8 & unders can swim a lap unassisted before they can continue to practice. Even returning 8 and under swimmers. We are not looking for great technique, but the will to do it and complete it! Please make every effort to have your child at practice this day. If for some reason a child is unable to make a lap unassisted, they may continue with practice on this day but will be unable to return unless they are able to complete the lap. OG is open to swimmers of all abilities, but it is not a learn-to-swim program. Our focus is on swimmer development and we cannot do that when we must divert our attention to swimmer safety.

Our coaches will be available for private lessons and at the point where your child can swim a lap unassisted, he/she will be welcomed back onto the swim team!

**Mon June 5 ~ First Meet (vs. a team that rhymes with boxcroft)

  • More info to come, but warm ups generally begin at 5:00pm

**Mon June 12 ~ Morning practices begin (MEET DAY SCHEDULE M/TH)

  • 9:00 - 10:00 ~ 10 & unders
  • 9:30 - 10:30 ~ 11&up

**Tues June 13 ~ Regular morning practice schedule begins (for non meet days- Tues/Wed/Fri)

  • 8:00 - 9:00 ~ 7-10 year olds
  • 9:00 - 9:30 ~ 6 & unders
  • 9:30 - 10:30 ~ 11 & ups

**Sat July 8 ~ All Star Meet

  • Participants will be announced after the last regular season meet

The Meet Schedule is also attached!

OTHER INFO:

As always, we have amazing help from our very talented assistant coaching staff. One of the many special parts of the Olde Georgetowne swim program is our valuable high school swimmers. We love that they want to give back to the team that has been such a big part of their lives since they were shrimpers. All of our assistant coaches swam for OG since they were little and bring so much tradition and excitement to the next generation. We are finalizing our coaching roster and will announce the full staff in a follow up email.

Additionally, this year we have one special alumnus who will be helping us out on the deck as well as offering clinics and private lessons. His name is Michael Chadwick and he grew up in the OG neighborhood and spent his summers in our pool. He went on to swim in college at the University of Missouri where he was an NCAA All-American and a U.S. National Team member where he won gold.

For more information on Michael, you can visit his website at

michael-chadwick.com

He has also asked that parents of OG swimmers please fill out this Google document so that he can get an idea of needs/interest regarding his help. https://forms.gle/XpDCjRhtQuWCf2jC6

Team suit and equipment information will be on our new TYR portal where you can buy suits directly online as well as see a list of coach suggested additional equipment items and recommendations. TYR is actually one of our official sponsors this summer and will be doing all of our equipment orders plus giving money back to us for our team members purchases so we encourage you to use this portal (which offers discounted pricing as well) when buying items related to swim team.  Swimsuit info coming soon!

We hope this letter helps give you a glimpse into our vision for the season and answer scheduling questions. Please reach out as other questions arise. We have a wonderful new support staff as well this year helping us navigate our way to continuing to remain THE best summer swim team in Charlotte.

We are counting down the days until May 15th…

Sincerely,

Your OG head coaches Kristen Shaver & Heather Fisher
